ABSTRACT:Performance Based Seismic Design (PBSD) thought is an advanced design thought at present. The research of this aspect is becoming principal topic in the field of earthquake engineering when the thought is gradually recognized and applied in practical. The study has very important practical significance of scientific and reasonable structure seismic design. The main research work in this paper is as follows:(1) In order to meet the requirements of the structure seismic design for refining seismic action level and pursuing economic rationality of seismic design, a seismic action level namely "economic earthquake" was set between "small earthquake" and "moderate earthquake" basing on summarizing the domestic and foreign research achievements in this paper, whose exceeding probability in50years and return period were separate39.5%and100years, and the values of the earthquake effect coefficient and earthquake acceleration were calculated; the inter-story drift angle was choose to quantify structural anti-seismic performance level, and the end rotation was choose to quantify the anti-seismic performance of the component. Corresponding to different anti-seismic performance levels, the limited values of inter-story drift angle were put forwards basing on review of previous research. The method of quantifying and evaluating the deformation capacity of components was determined, and double index thought for structure seismic design and evaluation was brought.(2) The relationship formulas between beam and column section curvature ductility coefficient and section reinforcement ratio and component volume stirrup ratio were established, and checking some influential factors were analyzed with practical examples. The conversion relation formulas between inter-story drift angle and ends rotation of the component were determined, and then the performance based seismic design flow figures were put forward.(3) Through the finite element method the earthquake effect was compared, and then qualitative understanding structure seismic performance level separately with performance based design method was realized. Basing on the direct displacement based seismic design, two performance based seismic design flows were put forward, and the feasibility that two flows are applied in performance based seismic design was proved though one six-story reinforced concrete frame structure seismic design and evaluation done according to the design flow.
