In oil trade, we use waterway mostly for the characteristic of petroleum. The cargo tanks of ship which are used to freight petroleum are not only means of transport but also measuring instruments to measure liquid cargo volume when doing the handover. With the constant rising of oil price, the accuracy of liquid cargo tank measuring is receiving more and more attention.For the complexity of ship structure and loading condition, the grillage deformation of liquid cargo tanks after loading is very complex. How much is the volume’s variation caused by grillage deformation? Does it need to be corrected? And how? These problems are getting attention by related departments gradually. The research of accurate measuring of the tank volume goes deeper constantly.Considering this situation this paper does the related research and exploratory, analyzes the volume’s variation caused by the liquid tanks’ grillage deformation. Using the method of a combination of theoretical analysis and simulation computation when doing the research. Through the real ship’s finite element analysis to research the structure deformation, then do some appropriate management of the model to form the tanks surface after deformation, import into a three-dimensional surface modeling software to finish the volume calculation after the deformation. Through researching a series factors that may cause the tanks deformation, this paper get the primary and secondary factors influencing the tanks volume, see the volume’s variation caused by the deformation on magnitude. Otherwise give some related suggestions about volume correction and method for deeper research.
