Goods trade is an important part of world economic activity. In the international trade in goods, the most convenient and general mode of transportation is by sea, and because of the particularity and universality of liquid cargo, liquid cargo ship become an important means of transportation in international shipping industry. In reality, liquid cargo ships are not only bear the transport task, its cargo tanks but also become an important measurement tool in the transfer of liquid cargo. Accurate measurement is not only related to the transport company’s reputation and performance, embodies a country’s level of the tank capacity measurement, but also directly related to the economic interests of the owner.However, the ships are huge in size, and have complex internal structures, have different loads subject to in different load condition or different navigation states, and then bring different deformation effected by the force occurring, which make a direct impact on the cargo tanks load capacity. Some study units began to make efforts to study these issues, the work of the precise measurement of tank capacity research is ongoing. Thus, in the article, factors which lead to the deformation of the tank structure, the degree of influence of volume changes because of these factors’impact on structural deformation cargo tanks, and the magnitude of these changes in the tank capacity and correction methods have been analyzed and studied.The article include the following contents:1. Study the background and current situation of tank capacity correction in and abroad;2. Elaborate relevant theoretical knowledge and methods on ship hull structure deformation;3. Using a tanker as an example, establish part-cabin model in the finite element software, MSC.Patran, and then load and calculate, process the result in three-dimensional surface modeling software, and obtain the rate of change of cargo tank capacity before and after loaded.4. Adjust and alter factors of affecting tank capacity, and calculate the rate of change of cargo tank capacity after being changed. 5. Analyzed deformation of the tank and the change of tank capacity, analyzed the effects and related laws of structural deformation on tank capacity by theory, proposed a formula, provided a guideline for correction of the tank capacity, which could provide a reference to related research.
