There are a large number of islands in Zhoushan Islands, and hydrodynamic condition there is complex influenced by Yangtse river runoff and Hangzhou Bay-East China Sea Tide. With the development of Zhoushan Harbour during the period of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan and establishment of Zhoushan Islands new zone, vessel density and vessel traffic in the harbour is gradually increasing, and risk of maritime traffic accident such as ship collision increases.Lianqin Center sluice is located in Shuangqiao town, Dinghai, Zhoushan, and around the sluice there are two large docks-Laotangshan dock and Yeyashan dock. thus it makes vessel traffic flow crowded there. The sluice is now in disrepair after nearly30years of use, and will be pulled down and replaced with a new one. A100thousand tonnage-class dock is planned to be built in front of the newly-built sluice. As water discharge of the newly-built sluice rises dramatically, and may obviously changes the flow field of the sea area, it will have an influence on the safety of ship’s navigation and approaching-and-leaving shore in the proposed dock.This thesis centres on the flow field numerical simulation of the sea area around the Lianqin sluice by means of Princeton Ocean Model (POM) before and after the sluice discharges water, introduces the feature and the basic equations of POM, the application of the model in different areas at home and abroad, and the improvement of the model by domestic and foreign scholars. Then verify the accuracy of the results of numerical simulation according to the acquired tidal data, and establish the following three schemes-designed high water level, designed low water level, ebb rapid tide during high water springs-to perform numerical simulation referring to data such as <<he Hydrometry Technical Report of The Fifth Phase Dock In Laotangshan Harbor District of Ningbo-Zhoushan Harbour>>. Finally, apply the results of flow field numerical simulation to the vessel simulation experiments to make safety assessment of ship’s berthing and departing the dock, and make good suggestions.
