The harmonious development of water and land transportation has been one ofthe most important factors for city development in the Yangtze River basin. As themost important facilities in port project, port road connects the water and landtransportation.Its construction quality is the important safeguard to realize the rapidconversion between water and land transportation. However, the port road is builtnear the water, so the soil of foundation is always make up of deep silt and silt soil.And further, the port road need higher embankment to avoid the flood. All of theseincrease the difficulty of treatment of soft soil foundation. In this paper, the authorbased on consulting a large number of domestic and foreign literature,and with thesupport of the treatment of soft soil foundation in Chenglingji port (Songyang Lake)project at Yueyang,we researched the settlement analysis and monitoring of soft soilfoundation in port road.The main contents are as follows:(1) We introduced theory calculation method and prediction method based onmeasured data about soft soil foundation settlement, and analyzed their advantagesand disadvantages. Took Chenglingji port project as an example, we based on themeasured settlement data, used exponential curve method, hyperbolic matchingmethod, Poisson curve method and grey prediction model for settlement prediction.According to the comparative analysis between predicted date and measured date,wefound the method of settlement prediction which based on measured data is moredirect and superior than theory method. Among them, the grey prediction model isthe best one in fitting precision and settlement prediction accuracy. In addition, if wecan correctly grasp the fitting rule, using exponential curve method can not onlyobtain a reliable settlement calculation result, but also greatly reduce the frequencyand investment of settlement observation.(2) We summarized the principles and key points of control method about softbase embankment construction. Combined with the monitoring data of typicalsection in Backing Engineering, we analyzed the application characteristic of fourmonitoring methods which are settlement, pore water pressure, side pile uplift andinclinometer tube, and obtained the control standard of soft base embankmentconstruction for the port road.(3) We reviewed the treat process of soft soil foundation in BackingEngineering. According to the monitoring of typical section, we evaluated the effect on technology and economy of soft base treatment methods which were used inBacking Engineering. The reslut can provide references for similar projects.
