In the history of world architectural, traditional Chinese architecture have independent and unique status, traditional architectural thinking is profound, and the basic shape of the housing is the essence. Under the influence of Chinese culture, dwelling is the core of ancient cosmology, and also have character performance under the influence of different regions, different climatic factors and so on.The history of architecture origin from housing, the housing can be regarded as the earliest form of a building in the history of mankind. Whether ancient or today, it appears as the main form of construction, and posse absolute superiority in the amount. In the early history, residential and other useful housings have no much difference, every kind of buildings develop from residence. The ancients attach importance to the residence, as the house is the hub of yin and yang, the scale of human relations. Siting and construction of housing on both embody the ideas and skills of the time, and the residence could undergoing change with the dynasties, the aesthetic changes, inter-ethnic communication and migration, and other factors. Therefore, research of the residence is representative, and could reflect the course of the development of Chinese cultural history.As numerous residential distribution, the author has its own unique geographical partition method, not in accordance with the existing administrative provinces, but depending on the geography and climate, and borrow the methodology of "constructivism" in the education, carve up the Chinese geographical nine regions to nine areas-nine palace panes in a squared, the center on behalf of house under the influence of Chinese culture "unit space"(it has nine characteristics of the Chinese ancient architecture proposed by Mr. Liang Sicheng), then as a reference, comparative analysis of the other eight areas-the commonness and uniqueness resulted in geographical differences. The final traditional house showing in people’s eyes, is not only distinctive, but also have a clear logical relationship, in line with the historical heritage of the geographical and ecological principles.The paper is divided into five chapters: Chapter I prolegomenon.Introduce the status of research with Chinese houses and house space at present, and in this context, the perspective of this thesis, the significance and research framework.Chapter Ⅱ the overall research of nine palace panes’structure of Chinese traditional houses.Architectural features are described in ancient China, according to the generated mode of traditional courtyard by the "one" to "million", to analyze the basic unit of "space" and the basic unit of "courtyard" in the shape mechanism of traditional courtyard-the "unit space" mode.Chapter Ⅲ Common features of the Chinese ancient architecture-the middle Palace.Analysis various factors impacting China’s residential convergence. Like "Moralistic Yi" considering as the cosmology impact the traditional architectural "space model", the "Propriety" and "Consistory" considering as the values of ethics impact patriarchal building rating scale and the order of the courtyard space... all of which constitute common features of the ancient architecture.Chapter IV The diversity of residential areas in the form (a)-the other eight areas.This chapter focuses on analysis of the law of residence constituted fit with the geographical features of "the other eight areas". Considering North of the cold Southern heat, the West dry (wind) and East wet (water) as geographical features, compared with common features and differences in performance between the house in middle Palace mode.The fifth chapter The diversity of forms of residential areas (b)-a special case.Expatiate the local residence’s different performance in the form under the influence of specific factors. For example, the changes of construct techniques and forms are brought about by factors of ethnic minorities, special protection, craftsmen and geographical material constraints.The sixth chapter The law of evolution and analysis of features of house space. Summarize the core space around the house and the monomer residential architectural features, compare the commonness and difference in dealing with house space. After that, it could be analyzed that the ancient combine with nature and use local materials, choose appropriate environment and then build homes. It appears wisdom and intelligence of the ancient. All of the above have a high guiding significance for our modern residential design.Epilogue part:along with the theoretic research of residential "unit space" mode, it is helpful with the more conscious of the heritage of ancient architecture in space verve. Combining with "poetic" in the analysis of residential construction, is contributive to today’s architects to form their own architectural language system. Construction techniques of the residential areas conforming to the natural, also has a positive revelation to our today’s ecotype design.
