With the rapid development of electrical railway catenary system as key equipment is particularly important, the catenary reliability affect the safety of the railway operations. Catenary on-line monitoring system can real-time detect parameters of the catenary, and timely warn anomalies, and protect Catenary reliable operation. Because testing equipments of the catenary on-line monitoring system work in the wild and bad environment, reliability of supply of testing equipment and data transmission of information is needed to solve.This paper analysises and compares the power supply and data transmission methods what can be used in railway at first, and it proposes solar-powered and wired transmission and wireless transmission method of data transmission which are suitable to the catenary on-line monitoring system, and describes the development and application of solar power and ZigBee. Then it describes the overall framework of catenary online monitoring system, as well as the basic theoretical knowledge of solar photovoltaic and ZigBee. Then it introduces importantly the design of the solar power and the scheme of ZigBee wireless transmission. In order to take full advantage of the energy generated by solar panels used in solar power design process, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology is used in the design of the solar power, the perturbation and observation method is more suitable for the power of the solar through the analysis and comparison of the commonly used maximum power point tracking method. The design of solar power is introduced from both hardware and software. The design of the hardware includes the design of the Buck circuit parameters, sampling circuit, drive circuit, charging circuit and MCU peripheral circuit, The design of the software includes the design of the main processes, the A/D converterprogram, the PWM subroutine and the MPPT procedure. The wireless transmission introduces the ZigBee networking process and routing methods, setting and allocation of addresses and software design. The software design of the wireless network system include the modification of the Z-Stack protocol stack program and the designe of the application layer program, the designe of the application layer program include the designe of coordinator node program, the designe of the router node program and the designe of the terminal node program.Finally, solar power hardware and software are tested, results show that the hardware circuit can work correctly, the MPPT algorithm meet the requirements and the solar power can charge lithium-ion battery. ZigBee wireless transmission test the network network, packet loss rate and transmission distance, the system performance to meet the design requirements.
