Fill walls is commonly looked as non-structural element in the frame structure of practical engineering interest, we usually just consider the stiffness of beams and columns and ignore the stiffness of fill walls in the practical projects. So it leads to a result that is the calculated period is longer than the real one and the earthquake action is weaker than the real one. Measured period demonstrates that the calculated period is longer than the measured period which ignores the influences of fill walls. According to "Code for Seismic Design of Buildings", period reduction factor uses a specific coefficient instead to estimate the influences of walls filling with bricks. The period reduction factor considers the influences of fill walls roughly in the existing code. It’s hard to get an exact number because the influence of material, quantity, holes of fill walls and number of plies or height of the structure. Therefore, this essay discusses the mechanical performance in the frame structure working with fill walls.(1) Through analyzing simplified model of different fill walls, the writer adopts equivalent diagonal model instead of RC frame structure to model verification and tests the model with tested findings.(2) This paper analyzes how fill walls influence RC frame structure in the seism action through comparing three different finite element models as follows:fill walls with a hollow-core in center, irregularly vertical arrangement and irregularly horizontal arrangement of fill walls.(3) Considering different filler materials%different filling rate、different height and different arrangements of RC frame structure in the finite element model analyzing, this paper analyzes how the fill walls influences the period of the structure as well as suggests a reasonable period reduction factor.
