In today’s world, energy shortage and environmental pollution, two problems become increasingly serious, in this case, the electric vehicles came into being. The Plug-in Electric vehicles to use high-capacity battery, low-power engine and equipped with super capacitor whose charge and discharge performance is very good, is a good choice to solve these two problems. So far, the lack of driving range is still the bottleneck of the Electric Vehicles, and it can be solved from the following two aspects:developing high-energy batteries and improving the efficiency of motor drive system as possible as we can.In this article, first discusses the structure and working principle of Battery Electric Vehicles, Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Fuel Cell Vehicles, and focused on the structure, working principle, and the Significance of the existence of Plug-in Electric Vehicles. On this basis, we discuss the three core technology of the current Electric Vehicles:motor drive systems, energy storage systems and vehicle control systems. Then we discuss the classification, performance, advantages and disadvantages of the motor that used by current Electric Vehicles and its control strategy.This paper mainly focus on Plug-in Electric Vehicle motor drive system, the following is the main work:(1)The parameters of Plug-in Electric Vehicles’power train components and related parts (Mainly the engine generator sets, the drive motor, battery and super capacitor) are matched by the performance parameters of the Plug-in Electric Vehicles.(2) The study analyzed the mathematical model of the asynchronous motor, and explore the asynchronous motor’control strategies commonly used for Electric Vehicle operating conditions.(3) On the basis of the above work to complete the design of the electrical part of the motor drive system. Motor controller design, including:the design and analysis of the rectifier circuit, the intermediate DC circuit and inverter circuit; control system design (including the implementation steps of vector control, drive circuit, the current detection circuit); cooling system.(4) To ADVISOR2002as the simulation platform, carry out simulation for drive system of Plug-in Electric Vehicles, and compare the simulation results with its design performance parameters.Through the above research, equipped with high-capacity battery and low-power engine, Plug-in Electric Vehicles alleviate the problem of inadequate driving range, in this process, it also promote the development of the battery. Therefore, in this transition process of Electric Vehicles develop to Battery Electric Vehicles, the Plug-in Electric Vehicle is a good choice.
