The design of ship structural fire protection is based on the cabin arrangement drawing. There are large numbers of cabins and the design referred to many factors such as the configuration of fire separation rating, which result in heavy design work. In addition, this design mode is standard and the design process is regular. The design efficiency and design quality could be improved significantly by using special automatic design system developed according to the knowledge and experience of the ship structural fire protection design.The overall scheme of Intelligent CAD System for ship structural fire protection is designed by using the customization of AutoCAD and SQL server database technology. This system is divided into three modules of drawing understanding, configuring fire separation rating and result output. The object model of the system is built by using object-oriented technology and the design work is transformed into the operation of the object model, which improved the reliability and reusability of the system; the cabin structure information in raw drawings is extracted by using graphics understanding techniques, and it is instantiated as design objects according to predefined classes dynamically, which realized the one-to-one correspondence between the object model and the entity structural information in drawing; then the design code knowledge base is built by using appropriate knowledge representation model, and the fire separation rating of bulkheads and decks is designed adaptively by calling the rules in the knowledge base; finally the drawings of fire separation and insulation arrangement are generated and the statistics of insulation material is carried out automatically.Intelligent CAD system for ship structural fire protection has been completed, realized th e expected function. The operation results show that the scheme is feasible, the technology is correct. The system can be used in practical design work after further improvement.
