The reason of the thesis research is quite direct and clear. As the objective reason that the problems of space regeneration have appeared in today’s China’s rapid urbanization and the subjective reason that I have got deeply emotional life in Beijing and had impressive experience as a torchbearer in2008Olympics, with the help of my teacher and as a result of urban design competitions, I finally choose the "space gereneration" as my thesis research, selcet the Olmpic Green as the study site, and do theory study, investigation research and urban design to complete this thesis.Following the2008Olympics, the crowds have left Beijing and the infrastructure built for them remains. All of them built in the last few years at an astonishing scale and rapidity, all in the name of the2008Games. Today, though, many of these places stand empty, under-used and under-utilized. We research on Olympic Green, which is one of the most typical under-used places in Beijing. Based on the concept of space renewal and regeneration, we design and renew the Olympic with methods of "Sustainable Connection","Green Casing" and "Three-dimensional Function". We try to make Olympic Green be used and useful, in a way that will enhance quality of local resident life; to make Beijing propel itself into long-term improvement and sustainable development; to make harmonious co-existence between space and people. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is Foreword, which is an introduction of the background, the purpose and the method of the article. The second chapter is Theory, which is the beginning of the main parts of the article, and also the explanation of the concept of space regeneration in three directions and the study on the post-Olmpics urban space, all of which should be the theory of the design. The third chapter is Investigation, which is the condition of traffic, ecology and function of the Olympics, and the research on the cases of the post-Olympic space regeneration in Atlanta, Sydney and London and a design of the urban space regeneration in an international competition. The fourth chapter is Design, based on the Theory and the Investigation, we design the site with methods of "Connecting","Greening" and "Integrating" to make more connections, better environment and higher utilization to realize the concept of space regeneration. At last, the fifth chapter is Summary, which concludes the space regeneration methods above, analyzes the features and the defects, and makes suggestions for the future urban space regeneration.
