The engineering background of this topic is the new lightweight series of bridge crane design project. The structure optimization of bridge plays a very important position. The optimization of the prototype lay the foundation for the next step about optimization of series bridge crane. The bridge is the main load bearing components of the bridge crane, and weight accounted for about60%of the whole weight machine. The bridge crane is widely applied to material handling and transportation of industrial and mining enterprises, workshops, warehouses, open space, rail, ports and other freight yard. The optimal design of the bridge is propitious to reduce the height and weight of the crane. Then, the height of workshop can be reduced, structure is simplified, manufacturing and maintenance costs is cut down. The energy resources also is obviously economized. The optimization design of the bridge follow the direction that the national hosting machinery develop to a lightweight, energy-efficient, safe and reliable international advanced technology. This paper takes the project of22.5m the A5model25t bridge crane as an example which belongs to the New lightweight series of bridge crane prototype. The optimal design of the bridge is done. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) The structure of bridge is researched. The difficulty about model of bridge is analyzed. The three-dimensional model of bridge is established by using SOLIDWORKS software.(2) The reasonable constraints are determined via checking calculation of strength and stiffness for the main beam.(3) Main beam optimization problem has been determined to belong to the nonlinear constraints. The optimal thickness of main beam is gained by using MATLAB software FMINCON algorithm.
