Ship hull form design is one of the important contents of the ship general design; it has a great impact on the ship technical performance and operating economy. Usually, the traditional hull form design is done by transforming parent ship, then check the modified hull form according to relevant design experience to final determine. So, the hull form design process is very tedious, and often need to modify, the efficiency is not high, neither. How to quickly design a performance hull form is one of the important problems need to solve for ship designers.Based on the upward analysis, this paper mainly studied the hull form optimization design method based on CFD, and applied the optimization technology to the hull form design to improve the hull form design quality, and to save a lot of design cost. The paper study main contains the following:1. Characteristic parameters analysis and choiceIn order to establish a parametric model, it needs to analysis the characteristic parameters. The choice of characteristic parameters is an important work before hull form parametric model was built. Thus, it need to analysis ship geometry characteristic and modeling rules, and finally determine the relationship between characteristic parameters and the hull performance. Through the analysis of the characteristic parameters, it will create the foundation for the subsequent selection of ship design variables in hull form optimization.2. Parametric modelingParametric hull form generation method is an important part of resistance performance based on CFD. It is a kind of good method to solve the needs to automatic provides ship shape in optimization process. Through the parametric ship generation method, it can automatically realize the ship shape line to generate with very little several or dozens of characteristic parameters, and it can realize the transformation of shape lines by adjusting the parameters, generate all kinds of new hull form.3. KCS resistance numerical calculationThe optimization target of the paper is the wave-making resistance. For the numerical calculation of the resistance performance, the wave-making resistance is calculated with potential flow solver, and viscous resistance is calculated based on the solution of RANS equation.4. KCS hull form resistance performance optimizationAccording to optimization problem, create reasonable optimization mathematical model, and choose optimization algorithm to complete optimization. The paper, based on the parametric modeling of KCS creating before, choose suitable design variables and constraint conditions, and complete ship wave making resistance performance optimization. It analysis and compared the total resistance reduce effect, finally.
