A Study On The Design Strategies And Tactics For Environmental Noise Control In Architecture

With the development of Chinese cities, the noise problem becomes more and more serious.Architects’ works are supposed to have close relationship with noise, but many of them justregard noise control as the patent of equipment engineers and fail to realize that noise couldbring some new positive effects to design. Therefore, the noisescape of Chinese cities aregetting worse and worse. Meanwhile the cost of noise control by equipment method is reallyhigh. Under this circumstance, the author discusses noise problem from Architecture level. Inauthor’s opinion, noise is not only a technical issue, but also a significant site factor whichaffect design result quite much. It would bring designers new inspiration. After lots of casesstudy, the author summarized a system of strategies and tactics for treating with noise inArchitecture level, hoping to draw enough attention and provide reference on this issue.The paper contains three main parts:First: Exordium. This part provides the background and positive significance of this research.The author summarizes the predecessor’ research data and gives his research framework.Second: This part introduces the basic characteristics of noise and points out that noise is animportant site factor which could affect the design result.Third: This is the main body of the paper. The author analyzes38cases which related to noisecontrol, and divided them into5categories:“control, sheer, cutoff, protect and change”. Foreach of these5strategies, the author uses several cases to explain the different tactics.In the conclusion part, the author summarized a system of strategies and tactics for noisecontrol, and illustrates this system by some diagrams.
