China implemented the Guideline for air quality assessment of passenger car in2012onMarch1. Air pollution in car interior causes the attention of the society. In this article,thestudy is from the perspective of industrial design, and the user centered design thought is thekey point. Combed with the research theories of air pollution in car interior, psychologicalphysics, design psychology, design methodologies, and product development, this paperprovided an industrial design solution to air pollution in the car interior.First, this paper described some theories in the three fields of environment, human andcar. In the environment research section, the factors influencing the air quality in car interiorwere discussed, furthermore, this part also discussed the key detecting technology of airpollution for ordinary users. In the section of human study, the direction of the solution wasdeduced from the Webber-Fechner laws; Through the analysis of three types of psychologicalmodel, an user centered psychological model of the solution was presented. In the last section,an upper limit value estimation method of height of car products was put forward.Second, the paper introduced the integrated innovation method and a gradient conceptualprototypes design method. According to the integrated innovation method, this section alsoput forward an innovation path of the solution. Next, the study focused on a gradientconceptual prototypes design method based on user research whose aim is to explore how tomove from user research to design. Through the user research, integrating the technologies ofair monitoring and purifying was proved into the strategy of the solution. Lastly, the paperpresented three gradient conceptual prototype versions for the solution.Finally, two separate prototypes—functional prototype and digital prototype—wereconstructed. By tested in some specific environments, the functional prototype verified thefeasibility of the first gradient version of the solution; Furthermore, a digital prototype basedon the functional prototype was built, and it was presented on the Showcase softwareplatform.
