Online water quality analyzing system function as water collection, measurement, datalog and quality analysis, which is the most important system in the overall environmentsystem. Online water quality analyzing system is required to measure multiple water items;meet different standards of different environment bureaus; reduce manufacturing,commissioning and maintenance cost. The original system no longer meet the developmentrequirement, a retrofit for the online water quality analyzing system becomes a must.This paper use flexible manufacturing technology as design method, retrofit the onlinewater quality analyzing system. Flexible manufacturing system is the automatedmanufacturing system composed of CNC machining equipment, transport&storage devicefor materials and computer control system, which includes a number of flexiblemanufacturing cell, can be changed to adjust rapidly per the manufacture or productionenvironment, and applied for multi-variety, small batch production.This paper discusses how to introduce the concept of flexible manufacturing to improvethe existing system, and to build a brand new automotive online water quality analyzingsystem based on flexible manufacturing concept. Ultimately it makes the control engineersand process engineers can work independently, and greatly reduces the debugging time andcost.This paper includes, the description of the functions of the online analyzing system; thediscussion of the concept of flexible manufacturing with comparing the main differencebetween the original system and the flexible design of the systems; the discussion of thefeasibility on adjusting the system and determination on adjusting details of the program; andthe system selection and implementation, which include PLC, HMI, network andprogramming.
