The conventional reducer is usually type selected with the help of products manuals. Firstly,customers calculated parameters such as the rated input power, transmission ratio, inputrevolving speed, output torque and so on by working conditions, then selected the reducerswhich has the most closed parameters with the rated input power, reduction ratio and so on bythese ascertained parameters. While such process which depends on human query of MechanicalDesigning Manual, primary election and check whether the reducer is the one meeting primaryelection requires. And usually several type reducers would be taken into account in the primaryelection, which increases the query and calculation work and the operation difficulties withinefficiency.Confronting with such realities, technicians who selected reducers purely dependingon experience could not meet the requirements of rapid developing type selection. While reducersalesman, without professional knowledge, in machinery couldn’t provide professionalsuggestions on parameters and selection results, which resulted in their failure to convince thecustomers to select the proper reducers and to meet company’s expectancy.With the application and development of computers, there had been reducer selectionsoftwares based on reducer parameters database from which proper reducers are selected. But thedata in the database couldn’t comprehensively depicted the reducer’s performance. With domesticand foreign developing status and trend of selecting reducer, this paper used the theory andmethod of the expert system, studied and explored the corresponding reducer selection system.The main content, techniques and achievements of this paper are listed as following:(1) According to the features of reducers’ type selection, this paper ascertain its thecharacteristic and demanding parameters;(2) This paper did research in the assessment system and built a theoretic model of reducertype selection based on fuzzy comprehensive assessment and layer analysis. It also laidcorresponding theory and method foundation for the type selection design by using instances todemonstrate and proving these two methods;(3) This paper analysed the function requirements and process of reducer type selectionexpert system. It built this system model from the knowledge base design, inference machinedesign and building of database respectively;(4) The design and development of reducer type selection expert system and its functionswere specified demonstrated in this paper by the help of ASP.NET techniques.This paper analysed the theoretic methods and system development of reducer typeselection based on fuzzy comprehensive assessment, analytic hierarchy process, expert systemand ASP.NET. Although it had some achievements, while a more efficient, proper and optimizedmethod should be found on the theoretic aspect. And it is a prototype system on selection systemso the database should be further enriched.
