According to the development pattern of the world’s energy, worldwide attention and research upsurge to the electric vehicle (EV) has made it into the main direction development of new energy vehicles, which is the most promising vehicle in the21st century. As the representative of energy-saving and environmentally friendly vehicle, the electric vehicle is the inevitable trend of development of the automobile industry. EV charging station is the energy supplement infrastructure, so establishing perfect service network of charging facilities is an important foundation to ensure the development of the electric vehicle industry. The layout of EV charging station was investigated in this paper, and an EV charging network planning system based on geographic information system (GIS) was developed, which could be operated by users.Firstly, the background and significance of the research was proposed, and then the development overview of the electric vehicle and charging facility was analyzed, followed by the significance of layout of EV charging station and the actual planning software. The operation of charging station must be supported by reliable electricity supply, therefore the influence of charging procedure in EV charging station to power load and power harmonic were analyzed. On the basis of foregoing analysis, the location and size of EV charging station was analyzed:factors influencing location layout of EV charging station were proposed, based on which the principles of layout were studied. For the size of EV charging station, queuing service system model was established to evaluate the level of service.Based on location analysis, fundamental models of EV charging network planning program and planning system function algorithm were designed, models including demand estimates of the daily service capacity and the single station service capacity; algorithm including service capabilities, service radius, grid load valley slip and carbon dioxide emissions reduction and so on. At last, an EV charging network planning system based on GIS was developed for the convenience of the users and forming a service network of charging facilities. For this software system, the related algorithm was designed to achieve the planning functions of the network system. The established network system can combine with the basic functions of GIS and provide analysis conditions such as charging requirements, service radius and the grid load, so as to enable the layout of operational EV charging station network. The characteristic of the system is that the location and layout can be operated by users, and the layout of the charging station including geographic information can be displayed directly on the screen with help of GIS. Users can choose the station location and adjust planning programs flexibly according to the geographic information of Jinan and the index information calculated by the software.
