Automatic meter reading (AMR) system is the use of contemporary computer technology, digital communications technology and household metering technology to collect, measure, process data of water, electricity, gas, and heat information used by urban residents. It radically reduces the complicated labor intensity of manual meter reading, improves the work efficiency of the management department, and also adapts to the new demands of modern user for payment.At present, the data collecting of user meter still relay on manual meter reading, this traditional way charged for electricity is heavy workload, low efficiency, high cost, low accuracy in statistical analysis of data and lag. It can’t achieve real-time meter reading, different time billing, real-time monitor the situation of power supply. In recent years, as our country carries out the project of "One Family One Meter" and "Transform of Two Networks", the number of power meter for trade settlement has rapidly increased. This increased many difficulties for power sector in meter reading. The power system has an urgent need for support of power network technology to get all aspects of information of power management, charge management, power safe operation.In this background, a new European instrument bus Meter-BUS (M-BUS) and related technologies for automatic meter reading system is used in this paper. M-BUS remote meter reading system is the European standard two-wire bus, mainly used for consumption measuring instruments such as heat meters, water meters, electric meters and gas meters. M-BUS has significant advantages, such as arbitrary topology, exchange of bus polarity, remote power supply. As the automatic meter reading system of smart grid based on M-BUS has the advantages of accurate collecting, reliable performance, simple construction, cost effective, its application prospects is very broad.This paper introduces the structure and data communication formats of M-BUS and develops a set of automatic meter reading system of smart grid based on M-BUS by using microprocessor MSP430F5525and dedicated transceiver chip of M-BUS TSS721A which is produced by TI Company. This system mainly includes concentrator of RS232to M-BUS, M-BUS slave data acquisition unit and smart meter data collecting and management software. M-BUS slave data acquisition unit uses32-bit super low power microprocessor of MSP430F5525, can achieve multi-node and error-free automatic data collecting. Added functions of remote signaling, remote control, it can deal the emergency conveniently when it appears. Concentrator of RS232to M-BUS can achieve a variable transmission rate from1200bit/s to38400bit/s; the smart meter data collecting and management software is mainly used to monitor the smart meter operating conditions, the staff can supervise the field in the control room.Since the automatic meter reading system of smart grid based on M-BUS will run in many different work environments, there may be a variety of external or internal noises. This paper gives a detailed description of anti-jamming design in the system, including hardware anti-jamming design and software anti-jamming design.Finally this paper summarizes the work completed and makes an outlook of the automatic meter reading system of smart grid.
