Computer simulation technology is an important research method in the field of vehicle safety, and the simulation accuracy and efficiency depend on the accurate model. The moving deformable barrier and offset deformable barrier models used in the simulation at present are mainly composed of solid elements and shell elements, but these models could not meet the demands of both accuracy and computational efficiency simultaneously. Therefore, the method to establish the deformable barrier model needs to explore, and it can meet the accuracy requirements and improve the efficiency.The idea of building aluminum honeycomb model which based on its characteristic proposed in this paper, and based on the above-mentioned, MDB model and ODB model with beam elements were built. The MDB model was validated in dynamic test and quasi-static test in accordance with the side impact regulation. ODB sample models were built and validated in the static test. Then the MDB model and ODB model were used in the simulations, both the beam element MDB model and the solid element MDB model were used to impact some vehicle at the velocity of50Km/h, five acceleration sensors located on the B pillar and the door, and the data between test and simulation were compared. To study the local characteristic of the ODB model, a cylinder impactor model of110mm in diameter was built and impact the fixed ODB, the acceleration of the trolley and the deformation of the ODB were measured, and they were validated by test. At last, Four MDB models with different distance between the beam elements were built. To find out the suitable distance of the beam elements, they were used to impact with different vehicle models, and the results were compared.The results show that the beam element MDB model has the characteristic of simple, high simulation accuracy and computational efficiency, and the MDB model is better when the distance of the beam elements is20mm or30mm; the deformation of the beam element ODB model is similar between simulation and test, and ODB model has great local characteristic. The MDB model and ODB model built in this paper could be widely used.
