As an important component of vehicle suspension, shock absorber and its damping behavior directly affect handling stability and riding comfort of the automobile. It need to be adjusted and re-designed frequently to get the proper damping behavior to match the new style vechile. The traditional method of shock absorber design is to obtain parameters from plenty of tests based on the damping performance. This process results in its long design cycle, low efficiency and high cost. Therefore, a type of approach is needed to be established which could simulate the damping behavior of the shock absorber, and obtain the parameters of shock absorber from the required behavior of the shock absorber.The main work is listed as follows:Firstly, studied various domestic and foreign various simulation model. A lumped parameter model combined with distributed parameter was proposed based on a type of specific shock absorber structure to analyse its behavior.Secondly, a distortion model of the valve plate for calculating the deformation was established by elastic mechanics theory. FEA method was used to verify the deformation of the valve plate and modify the distortion model.It also discussed the advantages of the stacked valves and then got its deformation.Thirdly, a simulation system for shock absorber behavior based on the mathematical model was established by MATLAB/simulink. MATLAB/GUI was used to design the simulation software system, the simulation result of which was found to be closed to experiment results.Finally, according to the required behavior of shock absorber, an optimization design technique based on least squares method and the curve fitting function in MATLAB Optimization Toolbox was put forward and validated.In conclusion, the simulation accuracy of shock absorber behavior, above90%, have already met the engineering practical needs. It has no doubt that the simulation model built in this paper could predict the performance and conduct the design of shock absorber.What is more, the simulaiton result matches the experimental data well. The design method can be used in engineering projects. The research method in this paper will play an important role during the design process of shock absorber in future.
