Research On The Form Characteristics Of Modern Bamboo Architecture

Bamboo is a kind of traditional building material. In the context of today’s increasingly strong ecological ideas, native bamboo and bamboo composite are getting more and more attention and application. In Shanghai World Expo2010, bamboo has been used in the construction of Spain Pavilion, Viet Nam Museum, Peru Museum, Museum of Madrid and India. It can be seen from this fact that application of bamboo in architecture has received international recognition. Bamboo is a renewable material with excellent ecological performance, the widespread use of which helps to reduce energy consumption in the construction process. In recent years, owing to the advance in material processing technology and structural technology, bamboo in Colombia of South America and Bali island of Indonesia has been widely used in the construction of large-span modern bamboo structures. These modern bamboo buildings enjoy sound safety, reliability and novel spatial pattern, reflecting the modern feature of paying equal attention to technology and humanity.Although has a splendid bamboo construction practice in ancient China, the bamboo construction is disappearing as new materials such as steel, concrete spring up in building industry. In recent years, great development of overseas modern bamboo building provide a chance for the design innovation of internal modern bamboo building on the basis of inheriting traditional culture. Therefore, on the background of contemporary culture and technology, researches on the modern bamboo construction are of important practical significance. China is developing the bamboo structure standards. Led by the Ministry of metallurgical industry, Mr. Marcus also was invited to participate in the launch of the peer, and in cooperation with national large design Institute, jointly to develop bamboo building standards. Establishment of the standard indicated a remarkable development of modern Chinese bamboo construction.In this thesis, namely, the investigation on "modern bamboo structures", discussions are presented in following five aspects:I, the advantages of modern bamboo material and the material characteristics, structure specialities, constructed traits of the raw bamboo are discussed on, simultaneously, the disadvantages of the traditional bamboo construction are analyzed; Ⅱ, the key component node methods on modern bamboo structures are summarized and sorted in the article, and also, the design principles and connecting node types are obtained. Ⅲ, bases on the knowledge-theoretical of modern architecture, analysis of the modern bamboo building structure and mechanical characteristics is shown. IV, the promotions about the design methods and principles of the modern bamboo building development are illuminated, according to the three common types of modern bamboo buildings at home and abroad. Ⅴ, the performance of modern bamboo building and its spatial characteristics are exhibited guided by the techno-aesthetics. Finally, the prospects of the trends and problems on the development of modern bamboo construction in architectural design field are given.
