Suspension is the important vehicle assembly, is the connection device to transfer torque between the wheels and body, have an important effect on many of the vehicle properties. With the development of science and technology, as well as the automotive industry, people have higher demand on the vehicle handling and steering stability. So traditional analytical methods have been unable to meet the research requirements of the modern cars, the new virtual prototyping technology has been widely used in various fields, this article just use the dynamic simulation software Adams to analysis the suspension system which is optimized on the vehicle handling and stability. The paper first focuses on the five-link suspension, as a new type of suspension mechanism, five-link suspension has the advantage over other suspensions, which has gradually been widely used in some cars. This article is based on a platform of ADAMS/Car, and design five-link independent rear suspension coming from the double wishbone suspension. First, analysis its kinematic simulation, and then according to the diagram of the wheel alignment parameters (such as kingpin inclination and kingpin angle change curve with the wheel hop), and then optimize and design the suspension. Through the contrast can be seen that the optimized suspension kinematics have been greatly improved.Secondly, on the basis of the optimized rear suspension in ADAMS/Car, we establish the vehicle model, including the front suspension model, rear suspension model, steering system, power system, body system, tire system. Under the standard ISO4138-2004, analysis the handling and steering stability of the vehicle model, including the steady-state back and step and sine input of steer wheel angle simulation, simulation of steering returnability. steering portability simulation and the serpentine line simulation, from the results of the figure obtained after optimization design of the five-link suspension, that the vehicle has better steady-state characteristics.
