In recent years, with the enforcement of national policy of energy conservation andpollution reduction, some kinds of renewable energy sources are widely used in practice. Theuse of solar energy is typical of the domain of energy conservation in buildings. GansuProvince locates in the northwest region of China, where the sun shines down directly and thesolar radiation resource is quite affluent. Aiming at a relatively backward situation of the ruraleconomic development, the heating problem can be solved by means of the solar heatingtechnology, which can not only improve the living conditions on the farmers and reduce theheating economic expenditure, but also meet the requirements of energy saving andenvironmental protection.Based on the target of energy conservation in buildings and the optimization of the solarheating technology, a new type of solar heating system that is suitable to rural houses in theareas in Gansu Province is proposed in this paper. The main results in this research are asfollows:1. The new design idea of rural houses in the areas in Gansu Province is introduced inview of the construction planning, energy saving of structure trunk, and internal functionlayout, etc.2. Aiming at the distribution situation of the solar energy resources in rural areas inGansu Province and optimizing the existing solar heating technology, a new type of solarheating system based on the combinatorial optimization of the solar airheating system and the solar water heating system is proposed, which extends theapplication scope of the solar heating technology. Moreover, some new rural houses, situatedin Shuping town in Yongdeng County, Lanzhou City, are treated as the plants where the newsolar heating systems are used in practice. This new system can greatly reform the existingheating situation depending on conventional energy resources and improve the energy savingeffect.3. Using the analog analysis software DeST-h that focuses on energy consumption inbuildings, the heat loads of the application plants can be computed. Hence, the design and theequipment type selection of this solar heating system can be carried out according to thesecalculations. Moreover, the comparison and analysis on technical and economic performanceamong this new system, the central heating system, and the household heating system drivenby natural gas are made by means of the annual cost approach. The results show that theannual cost of this new system is much lower than that of the other ones. Further, the effect ofenvironmental protection for this new system is significant by way of environmental benefit analysis.From aspects of technology, economy, energy saving, and environmental protection, etc,the research results in this paper very the feasibility of the proposed solar heating systemusing the optimization of the solar heating technology, which can also provide the newsolution to the heating problems of northern rural areas in which the solar radiation resourcesare quite affluent.
