Research On The Free Form Automobile Headlamp Concept Design System

The automobile headlamp is combination of the engineering and the art. The coordination of "engineering requirement" and "artistic modeling" is needed. The processing and utilization of the knowledge and example of the design is of importance. This paper drew features of artistic headlamp design which satisfies the engineering requirement and modification method during the phase of earlier stage layout and development design, and studied its virtual evaluation and modification strategies.At first, this paper put forward free form auto headlamp aided modeling tool. We can also create the functional points which can be used to build the curve and surface in the headlamp artistic design, which as a result will be a benefit for designers. Secondly, created the method of layout of auto headlamp, and at the same time created the tools such as partition of the source and the establishment of the position of the paraboloid to create the headlamp layout method which can satisfy the restraint of headlamp interior space, establishing the initial parameters for the design of the free form reflector. Then, created the method and the process of making free form headlamp reflector and at the same time gained the light distribution satisfying the requirements of the relative regulations. Used ray tracing method to simulate the illumination effect of the reflector, enhancing the virtual reality of the headlamp design. At last, gave the expert evaluation method to evaluate the headlamp design. The expert employs the evaluation basis to evaluate the evaluation object with experience to establish the level of the design and to find out the parameters that need to be modified, which can give the modification method. On the basis of the content mentioned above, developed the auto headlamp design test system.The test system is based on the UG as the graphic supporting platform, VC++6.0and UG/Open API as the developing tool. The application of the examples shows the feasibility and practicability of the test system which can carry out the auto headlamp design with the satisfaction of the engineering need.
