Beijing Electric Power Grid always pay more attention on security and reliability. but overlooks economic operation, which leads to a slow growth of load at some transformer substations and low equipment utilization of110kV and35kV transformers. As a result, the loss of transformers can be reduced and the operation economy of system can be improved if a sufficient policy of economic operation is proposed, which is based on an certain knowledge of how much the loss of transformers can be reduced and a reliable, secure power supply guaranteed. A operation project will be proposed after some analysis and evaluation on transformers of Beijing Grid in this paper.The evaluation is composed of energy efficiency evaluation(EEE) and economic operation field evaluation(EEFE). EEE is defined as whether the load and loadless loss reaches the very value specified in energy efficiency standard. Selection of Transformers can be judged as reasonable or not according to EEE. EEFE indicates whether the load rate of some transformer with certain load level works in the economic field. Transformers can be judged if they are light loaded or overloaded by EEFE. Optimization will be done combined with the operation mode of transformers and outage could be taken into account if light load happens. Switching circuits, adjusting load and adding transformers could be implemented if overload happens.The final operation project includes:1. Operation field of transformer is controlled in the optimal field;2. Transformers which are under the optimal operation field will be recommended outage based on reliability is satisfied;3. Operation mode will be analyzed timely on transformers which work in optimal operation field, and the operation mode that saves energy best will be selected;4. Bus switching and transformer mutual-input will be perfected as soon as possible which will create conditions for operation optimization of transformers.
