Transformer, an electrical equipment to adjust voltage, is widely applied in the generation, transmission and distribution sectors of power grid. Due to its huge numbers, its power loss is the most one during the process of energy transmission. The high loss generated during transformer operating shall not lead to waste energy, but also to shorten its life. Currently, the reduction for transformer operating loss is far below the reasonable level. So, to reduce transformer losses and save energy further, it is significant in practice to explore the theory of transformer economic operation for selecting the economic operation mode.In this paper, applying the theory of transformer economic operation, targeting at active power loss of transformer and on the premises that two transformers (two-winding/three-winding) in a substation, the optimal operating schemes under various loads are concluded based on the analysis of active power loss under different operating modes of transformer. The system for transformer economic operation, with offline and online mode, shall be explored. For online analytical calculation, towards the current weakness of transformer economic operation such as:poor operability, inconspicuous energy-saving effect, restriction to breaker On/Off times from time period, lack of considering device health degree, the frequent change of transformer economic operation mode, etc., the ultra-short time load forecast, bus load forecast or state estimation shall be adopted to pre-process the SCADA acquired data, and based on this a real-time control system is developed to automatically perform the breaker on/off for the economic operation of the transformer. For this system, the various methods of flexible intervention adjustment are offered and the offline analysis of transformer economic operation can be achieved after the operating mode is specified. In addition, the results of online and offline can be simulated by flow calculation. The automatic statistics, provided by the system, is available to present via report/curve, which makes the results more simple and clear.
