As Calvino said,"lightness" is an auspicious symbol for the new millennium.Different from the characteristics of the traditional architecture which is thick and closed."Simple shape","light color"." facade as transparent as the Poppara’s veil", slim component" is the visual impression of the work which belonged to the cutting-edge of architecture nowadays; in addition, you can find mainstream trend of thought of contemporary construction industry like "absence","dematerialization"."transparency","temporary" and "anti-gravity" and others that embedded in them through the works of the architect. If you use one word to conclude, then "lightness" can’t be better.The architectural creation is a kind of functional art, including the "utility" and "container", its function of information carrying and affective communication need it to reflect the mainstream thinking in different periods of the development of society, therefore, it is of great practical significance to study the expression of architecture’s sense of lightness. Firstly, this thesis refines the lightness character of the building through multi-angle cognition of the concept of lightness, and summarizes the expression of architecture’s sense of lightness through the literature and case studies. In order to achieve systematic, orderly, comprehensive research results with certain design and operability as much as possible, the main part of the paper proceeds stratified analysis from the four aspects of mass, surface, detail, matrix and building of construction which has the closest relationship with the expression of architecture’s sense of lightness.
