As the city ’s major public open space, city park is natural environment with certain usefunction and a green infrastructure of a city for city residents. It is not only the main place ofrecreation, but also the public cultural transmission sites. But now the city park design and alltypes of facilities cannot meet the use demand of all citizens, because there are still a largepart of people who are physiological vulnerable groups in citizens, and they cannot use citypark normally due to their physiological obstacle. The disabled have equal rights with othersocial members, and they concern about the society attitudes to them, but society providethem built environment that can best reflect the social attitude. This article did a comprehensive and systematic theoretical research and survey analysisfor barrier-free design of the city parks from the perspective of the actual needs of thephysiological disadvantaged groups. It got the scale of the rational behavior, environmentalbehavior characteristics and circumstances of psychological characteristics of physiologicaldisadvantaged groups in the outdoor space activities through the study of theories ofergonomics, environmental psychology and environmental behavior, and it tried to provide atheoretical basis for the barrier-free design of the city parks; and it got the types of obstaclesencountered in the city park, the accessibility of facilities hoped, the type of activities hopedand the evaluation of need for the spatial elements of the park activities throughquestionnaires and data processing, and it could realize their needs for city parks and thusprovide a reference and basis for the future city park designing on the factors that should beattended and consided designing from the perspective of physiological disadvantaged groups, and it discussed the methods of barrier-free designing and principles of barrier-free spaceceating in urban parks. The thesis is divided into six chapters to discuss how to undertake thebarrier-free design for urban park: Chapter Ⅰ, it defined the concepts related to barrier-freedesign for urban parks; and it analyzed the current research situation and existing problems ofthe study; Chapter Ⅱ, it introduced the thesis research content, research sites and researchmethods; Chapter Ⅲ, it summarized the human activity scale, environmental psychology andenvironmental behavior characteristics of physiological vulnerable groups; Chapter Ⅳ, it gotthe usage demands of physiological disadvantaged groups of urban park based on dealingwith the questionnaire data; ChapterⅤ, combined with the city accessibility constructionregulations and norms, it explored the barrier-free design principle and method for urban park;Chapter Ⅵ, it summarized the research content, and it prospect of the research prospect in this topic.
