A small car made in China is taken as the prototype vehicle, and is redesigned to a parallel hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) by adding a kind of differentia planetary gears power coupling device (PCD). In this paper, the major work includes the selection of HEV transmission, power coupling device modeling and simulation, simulation of vehicle performance based on ADVISOR.There are3basic configurations of drivetrain of hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), that is series, parallel and parallel plus series. Based on those3types of configurations’ characteristic, parallel is chosen as the car’s drivetrain configuration. According to the parameter of the prototype car and driving cycle requirement, the driving model of car and expect performance object are made, then the key parameter of drivetrain is calculated.The mathematic model of the essential part of the transmission system, a kind of PCD using differentia planetary gears, is established according to the choice of the drivetrain. And based on this mathematic model, the3D model and the virtual assembly are established in SolidWorks.Then the assembly is imported to the ADAMS through Parasolid format and virtual prototype of PCD is made for dynamical simulation. The simulation and analysis of4working conditions including acceleration, cruises, braking and EUDC are made. The simulation results reflect the matching condition of input&output speed between engine and electric motor.The whole vehicle simulation model using differentia planetary gears PCD is established on ADVISOR2002, then the simulation and analysis of3different topics including different energy sources scheme, the influence factor of vehicle performance object, the optimization calculate of the key parameter of drivetrain are done. The results of those simulation and analysis are useful and creditable for HEV design.
