Virtual Prototyping Technology is a new technology that integrates disperse parts design with analysis, builds the whole product model on the computer, performs simulative analysis about various work environments when the product is to be put into use, forecasts the whole product performance, moreover, advances the product design and improves the product capability.Container crane consists of the integration of different theories and technologies of machinery, mechanism, hydraulic pressure, electric, control, communication etc. The research of container crane design has apparent integration, academic, application. But such research develops slowly, so this research will fetch up the blank.There are main contents and tasks as follows:(1) The design of 3D visual system of container crane. By 3D visualization of the design of virtual prototyping, test and appraisal, the whole course of virtual experiment can be displayed directly with many forms of exhibition, such as graph, text, chart etc.(2) According to holographic modeling theory, the object-oriented technology is used to analyze the function, principle, layout, mechanism and structure of container crane synthetically, and then the modeling character is described and the parameter of structure system and mechanism system are analyzed respectively.(3) According to description of all components of container crane, the 3D geometrical model is built with MultiGen Creator software, and then the 3D appearance of container crane VP can be produced rapidly.(4) Through studying the actual operational environment of container crane, the virtual operational environment for testing and the relevant kinematical simulation model are set up. The kinematical simulation of VP is fulfilled by defining all panel parameter in LynX as initialization of program firstly, then programming with C language by analyzing operation flow of container craneThe research of container crane VP design is based on the development of modern port machine. It can provide designers with effective methods of visual design and interaction under 3D virtual environment. Designers and users can acquaint themselves with product performance, layout, and principle by virtual browse. virtual layout, and dynamic systemsimulation of operation principle and flow. Designers can carry through virtual producing, assembling and appraising for container crane in the process of product design, at the same time, avoiding design flaws, shortening the design period effectively. Then the cost of product can be reduced and its market competition can be improved.
