Lightning protection of overhead lines is always the general problem of safe and reliable power supply,lightning fault caused huge economic losses each year,especially multi thunderstorms in coastal areas,the economically developed regions,the economic loss is greater.In order to curb effectively the occurrence of lightning fault, reducing economic losses for lightning fault,the paper develop a new device for lightning protection,based on a "guiding type" of lightning protection measures,which can do the impact arc breakdown gap,quickly cut off frequency arc.The device effectively reduces the line lightning outage rate,and improve the reliability of power supply and reduce economic losses.The paper analyse the mechanism of extinguishing Arc,based on the test method,and obtain the characteristic parameters of the lightning protection gap device,especially,time characteristics of the arc suppression.Study the influence to the time and effect of extinguishing Arc,using different parameter configuration in gas generating device. Study the estimation methods for outage cost and proposed a new method to estimate the outage cost based on the survey of users’ categories. And solving a wide variety of users’outage cost function.According to the characteristics of lightning blackout,proposed the outage cost estimation methods for lightning.Install the mathematical model to judge Economic feasibility while fixing the lightning protection gap device. Based on the cost-benefit analysis,analyse the various factors that affect their economic benefits.Mastered the boundary requirements of economic feasibility,while fixing the device under different conditions.Draw some important conclusions of general significance.Provideing the references for economic evaluation,in order to promote the use of the lightning protection gap device.The lightning protection gap devices run the trials in some overhead lines for years in guangxi region, reduces greatly the lightning outage rate of line,reduce the economic losses caused by lightning outage.by analysing the NPV,the lightning protection gap device is feasible in economic and Suitable for promotion and application.
