With the rapid development and popularization of the in-vehicle network technology in the automotive industry, it has been widely used in the control of the vehicle chassis and body systems. The popularity of the in-vehicle network and its functionalities has become one indicator to measure the performance of a vehicle. The in-vehicle network is usually designed as a distributed system which can avoid the loading concentration by which information exchange between the in-vehicle electronic control units (ECUs) via a serial communication bus, each ECU could be regarded as an independent node of the network system. The topology of the in-vehicle network is a bus structure in the scope of a computer network, however, the requirements of automotive applications are much higher than ordinary computer network system in robustness and reliability. To this end, this paper proposes a in-vehicle network management complied with the indirect NM mechanism of OSEK/VDX NM specification in CAN, which is used to control the body and the powertrain system in vehicle, and is used most widely as the only protocol had an international standard. This paper first simplifies the internal mechanism described by indirect NM, only selecting the internal states related with monitor the transmission of periodic application messages in the network, designs the states transition relationship for in-vehicle network management system followed the indirect NM mechanism. Then, implements the monitor to periodic application message sending process on the in-vehicle CAN network research platform through global time-out monitoring, under the support of indirect NM counter management and configuration management functions. A communication protocol of in-vehicle network management system is developed in order to obtain the NetID and NodelD, and the corresponding configuration and extension configuration information of the monitored nodes. Finally, verified the main functionalities of the indirect NM in vehicle network management system and the validity of monitor the transmission of periodic application messages in network through the analysis of experimental results.
