With the rapid economical development, cranes are widely used in variousindustries, the developing level of cranes marks the level of the national construction,to meet the increasing and complex requirements of construction, cranes arebecoming large-scale, mechanical and automatic. Cranes are the typical dangerouslarge machines which have much probability of the accident, the failure of cranes notonly causes cut-off time, but also brings huge economic and life loss. In order toimprove the reliability and security of cranes, it should take some effective measuresto reduce or avoid unexpected failure. Now much more research is doen on healthmonitoring on cranes from home and abroad, which gains much good results.In this paper, a gantry crane is used for research project, using ANSYS software tofound finite element model, through laying smart sensors in practical application site,data is collected, it uses professional software for analyzing data, comparing theresults from ANSYS software and practical engineering, it is analyzed early alarmingtheory in this paper at last.(1) It summarizes the research on health monitoring on cranes at home and abroad,this paper also summarizes the health monitoring theoretical basis of cranes as wellas related to key technologies.(2) It used ANSYS software to found the model of gantry crane, to calculate thestress of various components of crane under different conditions, to get thecomponents which has much more stress than others, the analysis results wouldhelp to draw up layout sensor scheme.(3) Through using health monitoring system on one gantry crane, it obtains thestress time curves of different monitoring points, to compare the calculation resultsunder analyzed by ANSYS software, it will be verified that the measured maximumstress values don’t exceed the allowable stress of the gantry crane, which meansthat measuring results meet the requirements of cranes.
