Remanufacturing is a series technical measures and engineering activities torepair and reform retired products, which takes product life cycle design andmanagement as guidance, with the goal of realizing great-leap-forwardimprovement of retired product performance, with high quality, and high efficiency,energy saving, saving material,environmental protection as the criterion,and takesadvanced technology and industrialization as the means. As an advanced formof recycling of retired products, remanufacturing can effectivelysolve the problem of resource scarcity, energy shortages and environmentalpollution, therefore, it had received high attention from industrial countries.With the rapid development of global manufacturing, the survival of human isfacing a serious threat owing to the excessive consumption of resource and energycombining with severe environmental pollution, the community must take the roadof sustainable development according to the requirement of grim realities.Automobile industry is one of global manufacturing, which has the most resourceconsumption and environmental pollution. The remanufacturing of key componentsof retired automobile, such as gearboxes and engines, is one of the significant waysto realize the sustainable development of social, which can effectively reduce theconsumption of resources and energy, meanwhile, cut down the environmentalimpact of the production process.Automobile gearbox was taken as research object in this thesis, and the keyissues that should be solved in the process of design for remanufacturing areproposed through analyzing of structure characteristics and remanufacturingprocess of it, namely, the conflict resolution of structural design forremanufacturing, the determination of remanufacturing occasion andremanufacturability assessment, furthermore, the solving models of above threeissues were established through the integrated use of TRIZ conflict resolutiontheory, multi-objective decision theory and product life cycle assessment theory.Knowledge base of the process design for remanufacturing was established throughanalyzing the remanufacturing process of automobile gearbox, and design supportsystem for remanufacturing of automobile gearbox was developed, which provides an effective design support tool for designers.
