SOx pollutions from marine diesel engines cause a serious environment problem. Theinternational Maritime Organization (IMO) enacted a revised Convention for control exhaustemissions from ships. Using low sulfur fuel and Seawater SOx Scrubber can reduce theemissions from engine. However, the increasing cost of fossil fuels and the stricter emissionlimits under consideration for marine engines have the interest in developing seawaterscrubber systems.In this thesis, a new seawater desulfurization unit was designed. The unit sprays theseawater in the inclined spray type, and optimizes the internal flow field through theinstallation of air distribution plate. To observe the internal flow field of the desulfurizationunit, the gas-liquid two-phase flow in the seawater desulfurization unit is numerical simulated.The gas phase is précised by k-ε model, which simulate different air distribution plate numberon the device internal flow field situation. Installing two layers of air distribution plate canprevent the escape of gas effectively, and optimize the overall flow field. The DPM model isclosed for the numerical simulation of two-phase flow in the desulfurization unit. Thespraying have a great influence of the flow in the unit, the gas entrainment phenomenon ishappened near the nozzle, and the gas surrounded is thinner than the gas in center. Theatomized droplet is full of basin space and in the center of unit the concentrations of droplet ishigher, and the droplet distribution and gas distribution situation is the same.In order to investigate the desulfurization performance of the desulfurization unit, asmall seawater SOx-Scrubber system is set up. The artificial sea water is made in the way ofMoccledon, instead of natural seawater as a desulfurization agent. The results indicated thatair distribution plate installed in the unit improved gas desulfurization efficiency. At the sametime, the effect of velocity and SO2concentration on the desulfurization efficiency werestudied.
