CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) as the computer aided engineering designsoftware is widely applied to the gearbox, engine, clutch and other high-endcomplex product development. And its main functions contain product modeling,engineering analysis and simulation. A vehicle shift system the most frequentlyused in the car to realize communication between human and vehicle,should beguaranteed its flexibility, stability, safety and reliability in operation. Andsynchronizer as one of the most important components in the shift system, itsperformance largely determines the shift quality of the shift system. Thereforeapplying the CAE technology on the study of shift mechanism not only shorten thecycle of product development and reduce cost, but also can make a significantimprovement of the quality and performance of the shift mechanism.Firstly, the importance of study of the shift system is elaborated in this paper,and the development background and status of shift system is also involved is thisarticle. Additionally, the function and principle of each component in the shiftsystem are analyzed, and then the dynamic mathematical model of the shiftmechanism is constructed under the stress analysis of the shift fork in the gearpicking and selecting process.Secondly,three-dimensional model of the synchronizer is constructed underPro-E by referring the real structure of the single ring synchronizer in thetransmission and imported into ADAMS dynamic simulation software. Moreover,the constraint conditions such as degree of freedom, rigidly, rotary inertia and theload of shifting force, resistance force, torque and so on, are added to the modelunder ADAMS in accordance with the parameters acquired. And the dynamicsimulation of the synchronizer is done to compare with the dynamic mathematicalmodel. Therefore the accuracy of the simulation analysis is validated. Later,analyze the shift characteristics of the shifting force, moment of inertia, dragtorque.Finally, the effective load is extracted from the shifting curve by applyingrain-flow counting principle. Then the reliability and life-time of the shift fork areanalyzed by using the bound conditions of the shifting force. Moreover, atopological optimization to the shift mechanism is finished under the premise of realizing the full function of shift fork. In short, the dynamics simulation analysiscan provide the proper parameters such as speed, force, displacement for the newproduct to accelerate the product development, and topological optimization is alsoimportant for product structure optimization, both methods are widely used inengineering application.
