At present, China is vigorously developing the smart grid, and the research and construction of smart substation is one of the core objectives of smart grid construction. The intellectualization of primary equipment proposed in smart substation refers to substituting electronic transformers for the traditional transformers and substituting intelligent circuit breakers for traditional high voltage circuit breakers, so that effective isolation between high voltage circuits and low voltage circuits can be achieved while the stability of operation as well as the simplicity of maintenance in the substation system can be ensured. However, due to the immaturity of the intelligent circuit breaker, a totally new device is introduced in the process layer to ensure the realization of intellectualization of primary equipment in the intelligent substation:the intelligent terminal. The intelligent terminal is a interface of primary equipment and secondary equipment in intelligent substation system realizing the intelligent transformation of the traditional primary equipment, which is also the optimal solution to the traditional switch and transformer interface problems of intelligent substation. For these reasons, the intelligent terminal devices of126KVGIS are designed in this paper.First the model of the intelligent terminal is designed according as IEC61850standards, and then research and design of the intelligent terminal and the merging unit are made from the two aspects of software and hardware according to functional requirements of the intelligent terminal and the merging unit. During the design of hardware, the intelligent terminal applies the "ARM+FPGA" dual-processors structure to build the hardware platform, implements system management and communication function of the intelligent terminal using high-performance, industrial-grade ARM microprocessor—TM32F103ZET6, and implements IHMI and Ethernet communication based on IEC61850; besides, the intelligent terminal applies FPGA processor EP2C8Q208C8to realize the time synchronization and the expansion function of port. The mode of C language programming is used for the intelligent terminal during the software design and modular design is also adopted to achieve the convenience of improvement and expansion of the system. Finally, WINPCAP network development kit is applied to design a test software, and simulation of the GOOSE message transmission between the PC and the intelligent terminal then is carried out.The design of intelligent terminal on126KVGIS design in this paper may have some important theoretical significance and practical value to the construction of the smart substation.
