Abstract/Summary:
After a hundred years development of the modern architecture, the relationship between media art and architecture art was becoming more and more closed, and a prosperous development of cross academic research appeared. It was inseparable from the public art attribute of architecture. Cinema, a comprehensive expression of advantage and development of media arts for hundred years, had a great resonance with architecture on various levels. The cinematic architecture came gradually into people’s perspective as a crossover research field.From its origin, cinema, as a new kind of art, was based on the same background of modernism architecture movement. Cinema established artistic creation form based on time and images, while architecture created its aesthetics mechanism on shape relation and space composition. The analysis object of cinematic architecture in this paper is focused in architecture. Meanwhile, cinema is utilized as a research tool for a new method of architecture creation and thinking, which provides the architecture a possibility to convey a cinematic spiritual experience which is beyond the physical attributes.This paper, as a conclusion to the development and research of cinematic architecture, tried to put forward a definition of the cinema architecture, explored the inherent relationship between cinema and architecture, excavated the similarity of space-time plane modeling through analyzing relevance between cinema and architecture. Based on classic cinema research and analysis on a great quantity of practical examples and on the basis of the teaching and research experiences, this paper summarized the application of cinematic thinking mode in architectural artistic creation like crossover construction, scene organization, selection and control of material and shadow. It verified the result with design practices by the author, in order to provide a new approach in architectural design and creation.
