Building energy consumption, which accounts for a large fraction oftotal energy consumption in our country, is growing quickly. Buildingenergy saving in China is comparatively in lower level and starts rather laterand requires further study. Building envelope is the key factor affecting theenergy efficiency in buildings. So the improvement of thermal insulationproperties of building envelope is significant. The wall, which is main partof the building envelope, has to not only afford service load but also beenergy efficient. It is really hard to achieve this aim by using single material,so more and more composite material is applied.This paper analyzed comparably various green building evaluationcriteria used in different countries at first. Then the structure andcharacteristic of various widely used exterior wall insulation systems,including the passive solar house in Expo Shanghai, are analyzed also. Anew technology of applying used wall panels in portable building as theexternal wall thermal insulation is studied. The improvement of mechanicaland thermal insulation properties is analyzed. A two-story brick and concretestructure house in Sichuan earthquake disaster region was taken as a sampleproject of such application. It is a new sustainable way to consumeconstruction waste. Finally a new prefabricated double skin exterior wallsystem is suggested in this paper. The experiment and numerical researcheson mechanical and thermal properties of such new prefabricated wall systemwere carried out and some useful advices for design could be drawn out.
