Nowadays, the international community is confronted by the problems ofresources crisis and the environmental pollution. As an alternative resource ofpetroleum, ethanol gasoline can either alleviate the lack of petroleum or effectivelyreduce the pollution of exhaust gas from engines. At present, many researches havebeen carried out on the ethanol gasoline consumed by the car engines. This paper, which aims at emission reduction concerning about the fact that motorcycles arelargely in use in China, makes an experimental study of ethanol gasoline necessarily. In order to fulfill the research goals, we have finished a series of investigation onthe dynamic properties, fuel economy and emission properties of engines fromdifferent motorcycles and with different ration of ethanol, and these experiments areconducted on the basis of WMTC and we have chosen three representativemotorcycles whose displacement volume covers110mL,125mL and150mL andmade use of the chassis dynamometers of National Motorcycle Quality Supervisoryand Testing Center. The experiment results demonstrated that the dynamic properties and fueleconomy of engines appeared to be little change but the emission of CO and HCreduced a lot. However, when the ration of ethanol is20%, the emission of NOxwillbe increased obviously. In conclusion, with all of the emission performance taken intoaccount the gasoline with10%ethanol is recommended in use, while the gasolinewith higher percentage of ethanol should be is restricted by the after-treatmenttechnology.
