Oceanographic Research Vessel Lateral Thrust Cover Hydraulic Load And The Thrust Research With Covers

Shocking vortex is generated by sea water of inside lateral thrust cylinder, whenOceanographic research vessel is in the normal navigation. The measuring instrumentof acoustic is interfered by shocking vortex in the bottom. The problem that sea waternoise inside the lateral thrust cylinder is solved by lateral thrust covers. So that theresearch of lateral thrust covers is provided with a special significance.In this paper the3D model and numerical simulation of the lateral thruster andcovers are applied the Pro/E and Fluent software. And the mesh are generated byGambit software. The main contents are as follows:1. The3D model of lateral thruster and covers are constructed by Pro/E software,especially the propeller model. The appropriate model is selected, including thecalculation domain, grid division, solution model, boundary conditions, solvingparameters and so on. Then the numerical simulation is calculated by Fluentsoftware.2. When the lateral thruster does not work and works, the hydraulic load of covers isanalyzed by empirical algorithm and simulation method. The conclusion isprovided the basis to determine the motor power of lateral thruster cover deviceand the strength of cover plates, shafts and bearings.3. The influential of lateral thrust is about13%on covers through simulation analysis.The lateral thrust is impacted by cover thickness and shape, and with the lateralpropeller inlet velocity, the effect of covers increases. Understanding of covers onlateral thrust is very significance. The reference is provided with designing of laterOceanographic research vessel lateral thrust device.
