In history, the city water space always plays the role of flood control and drainage, water conservation as well as defense and transport. But in the modern world, the citywater space mostly play the role of keeping the natural environment and ecologicalbalancing, regulating micro-elimate, providing leisure place and so on. For mostwater-resource enriched cities, which belongs to water network patterns, their water spacecan have the function of improving city function and living environment, these actions arethe important guarantees of city sustainable development. With the pace of urbanizationincreasing after our Reform and Opening up, Large-scale urban renewal and cityexpansion lead to the aggravation of city ecological problems, the separation of waterspace, the pollution of water environment as well as city waterlogging, this cityecological problems prohibit the sustainable development in most extent.Green infrastructure theory developed from western countries is a Smart Protectionmethod, aiming to provide a well developed strong systematic strategic approach andinternet frame to protect land and ecological resources. The theory is capable of protectingnatural spices, maintaining ecological process and assuring air and water quality, andpromoting community health development and residents health level. It thus protect theurban ecological security to achieve harmonious and sustainable development betweenhuman and nature. The space of city water system is an alienable part of the greeninfrastructure network system, and the ecological service function it carries playssignificant role for urban ecosystem. Green infrastructure theory emphasizes onconnectivity, networking and integrity, and it is of great direct significance for aquaticecosystems space.Though the theory and practice of foreign green infrastructure, review and analysis ofexploration and construction of the greenway planning, this paper summed up thesignificance and role of the city water system space as green infrastructure. Taking Wuhanfor example, the dissertation understands the ecological service functions of the urbanwater system space from the protection of urban ecological security, as well as thecharacteristics which water system should have as a green infrastructure. The dissertation analyzes plight of Wuhan’s water system space in protecting and utilizing, studies theWuhan’s water system by using green infrastructure network construction method, andproposes planning strategy from pattern of aquatic ecosystems in the macro-level, theconnection of water system space in the meso-level, the control and management of thewater system space in micro-level, so as to enhance the ecological value of urban watersystem space and to promote the efficient play of the ecological function of urban watersystem space. Proposing the planning strategy for Wuhan’s water system space can alsoproposes planning proposals and methods for those cities which similar to Wuhan.
