With the development of national economy and the promotion of infrastructureconstruction, a large number of large-scale Expo centers, exhibition halls, stadiums andother steel constructions have emerged in recent years. Their sizes are becoming more andmore larger, their building structure forms are more and more novel. However the newscales, new forms, and new features brought the new challenges to the steel structureconstruction safety. In recent years, Chinese large-scale steel structure constructionaccidents have been occurred, in which the accident rates during large-scale steel liftingprocess are particularly prominent. Thereinto, problems, due to structural instability,insufficient strength of the local component or node as well as interference and collisionwith the surrounding entities during the overall enhancing process which causedoverturning or collapse of the accident, have been the major difficulty of steel construction.And the traditional construction means and methods still cannot solve these problems anddifficult effectively because of shortcomings of themselves. With the rapid development ofcomputer technology, the virtual construction technology used in large-sale steel liftingconstruction has become a new trend.The study were analyzed the main features of the domestic and foreign steelconstruction and the reasons why steel structure construction safety accidents occurring,as well as the main difficulties or challenges facing; and summarized the research statusand main advantages of the virtual construction technology at home and abroad; and builtthe framework of the steel structure of the virtual construction platform for thebackground project, Wuhan International Expo Center, which was applied in the largesteel lifting construction process. It was focused on the key support of the virtualconstruction technology, such as Modeling and Simulation system technology. Themodeling techniques mainly contain the modeling of virtual hoisting construction steelstructure as well as modeling process combing with collision detection and mechanical analysis.Finally, via the application on Wuhan International Expo Center steel constructionproject, accomplished the real-time dynamic simulation about combination of Steel virtuallifting process and mechanical analysis; combination of collision detection, liftingequipment safety and stability analysis based on two-three dimensional linkagetechnology platform, which provides a feasible scheme to overcome the difficultiesencountered in the large complex steel structure construction now.
