Because of the importance of city bus in city development, our government has beenencouraging the development in public transportation industry for a long time. But the lack ofpublic transport vehicles energy management system, not only led to some vehicles with highenergy consumption into the market, but also brings inconvenience for the public transportcompanies to buy vehicles. The reason is that, there is no scientific and feasible bus fuelconsumption test cycle presently, a direct result of a bus cycle energy management systemcan not be introduced. The current standard provides four-mode testing cycle for bus fuelconsumption testing, which is formulated far away, with the development of technicalcondition and the changes in urban transport structure, there had been a serious deviationbetween four-mode cycle and the bus the actual driving state, so the actual value is far cryfrom the vehicle fuel consumption measured by four-mode testing cycle. To establish ascientific and reasonable fuel consumption testing cycle which can reflect the actual runningstate of the city bus is not only the basis of the accurate measurement of fuel consumption ofbuses, but also the premise of bus manufacturers and testing departments to provide referencefuel consumption value.This paper is based on of a large number of actual city buses operating data, usingstatistical methods in processing and analysis of test data, constructed the four typical city busdriving cycles, combined with the research of other cities, considering the application statusof the vehicle fuel consumption measurement methods, developed the final bus fuelconsumption testing cycle. The main research includes:Through a survey of the road type of the four test cities, the author use the conception of“frequency of section of a highway or railway” to select a representative test bus lines, withthe test methods of “real vehicle following-up” to collect city buses running data. Byanalyzing the dispersion coefficient of the original data to verify the validity of test data, thestudy provides strong data support for research of bus driving cycle.On the basis of test data, the author analysis methods used in research of driving cycle,combined with advanced data processing methods such as principal component analysis and cluster analysis, worked out the typical driving cycle of Chongqing, Xi’an, Wuhan, Suzhouand four city buses in methods of “micro-trip”.Based on these four typical driving cycles, combined with several other city busesrunning cycle characteristics, study suitability and application status of three kinds of vehiclefuel consumption test method, and the eventual establishment of a modal type of fuelconsumption testing cycle, analyze and verify the need for China’s city bus fuel consumptiontesting cycle.
