With the rapid development of socio-economic, science, technology and increasementof traffic demand, traffic problem has become the primary challenges for many people, andrestricted the development of the national economy in some way. How to improve andenhance the efficiency of the existing transportation network in a national and scientific wayhas become an urgent problem. Traffic guidance system is an effective means of improvingthe traffic problem. Traffic flow model not only is the basis for traffic guidance, but also is thekey section. According to the present situation of traffic flow guidance system at home andabroad, based on comprehensive analyses and comparisons, the article designs the overallframework of highway traffic flow guidance system in China, and describes the process ofhighway traffic flow guidance system by combining basic conditions of traffic informationand traffic facilities in China.Traffic guidance system had unique features of discrete-event systems, such assynchronization, concurrency, conflicting, mutual exclusion, resource sharing and so on. Petrinet was a analysis tools for both graphics and mathematical theory. Due to the comprehensivemathematical theory, it soon became an effective tool to describe and analyze the behavior oftraffic guidance system. Petri net was adopted in this paper to build the expressway trafficflow model. Simulation results showed that the algorithm can improve the performance ofsystem.Firstly, according to the characteristics of the highway, the article established directedgraph of network model after the abstraction of network, and provided a basis for Petri netmodeling. Then on the basis of highway road network directed-map, the article used coloredPetri net technology to build a model for highway traffic flow in the context of CPN tools,and introduced the performance of traffic flow model in details. The validity and correctnessof traffic flow model can be analyzed and validated by simulation report and state-spacereport. Finally, by analyzing the format and content of file created from CPN tools, the articleused dom4j to read, modify and write file in Java platform so as to achieve automatedrealization of traffic network, which resolved the time-consuming, low efficiency problems inmanual modeling of CPN tools.
