Shanghai rail transit, also known as Shanghai subway system, was first in operationofficially on December12th,1994. It was the third city rail transit system being in operationfollowing Beijing rail transit and Guangzhou rail transit on the mainland of China. It is also thelongest city rail transit system so far. Until September1st,2012, the net of Shanghai rail transitsystem had covered420kilometres which was in the lead of the world, including11railwaylines and287railway stations. The expanding of the rail transit means a higher request on efficiency of maintaining andreplacing the railway spare parts. However, an investigation by Shanghai Phsical DistributionCentershows that there aresome obvious problems in the inventory control of spare parts So, thisarticle will give a discussion and analysis in detail about the three main problems. A multipleindex evaluation system is raised to solve the problem of classfying the subway spare partsinstead of the traditional method which only takes value in consideration in Chapter2. InChapter3the improved Bayes forecasting method is raised for spare parts which has a demandof uncontinuous period, Then various methods are raised to solve the forecasing problems ofdifferent kinds of spare parts whose demands are in continuous periods according to theirdemand distribution. These methods include exponential smoothing, regression analysis andseasonal factors. All of the methods are taking an actual computation to make the conclusionmore stable. After that different inventory controlstrategies are formed to adapt the classificationof spare parts which has been represented in the front of this paragraph in Chapter4. At last,Arena software is used to build a model in order to prove the reasonability and effectiveness ofthe numerical value which is computed using the methods above in Chapter5.In conclusion, there are some methods raised in this article to deal with the problems ininventory control of railway spare parts of Shanghai Phsical Distribution Center. And this articleis tightly related to the actual condition. So it has practical value in a way.
