Energy efficiency, degree of automation and the quality of washing are thepursuit target of the household washing machines. The brushless DC motorcontrol system in this study can better meet these three goals over theinduction motor system.This article first compares the different drive system for washing machines,sine wave brushless DC motor of high efficiency, low noise and themaintenance-free characteristics can better meet the requirements of thewashing machines. For the development of cost-effective control system,we use low cost Hall position sensors as position measuring element toobtain the rotor position and the rotor speed. To further reduce costs, thedetection phase current sampling resistor is located under the bridge arm.Based on the Vector Control theory and the Space Vector Pulse WidthModulation (SVPWM) switching strategy, we get the brushless DC motorcontrol algorithm. Compared to square wave brushless DC motor, it canreduce the motor noise. We comprehensive analyze the washing machines’ working mode andcontrol functions, and highly integrate the control system’s sotfware andhardware resources. In the hardware design, the operation panel only playsthe role of display and keys input; the system control panel integrates thefunctions of motor driver and washing function control. As in the softwaredesign, including the estimation of the rotor position, SVPWM generation,PI control, key, display and washing modes these modules. These improvethe real-timing of the system.Finally, the brushless DC motor control system is conducted theperformance testing and installed debugging. The test results show that thesystem’s good prospect.
