In recent years, rural road traffic safety situation is worrying, especially in mountainousrural roads, such road of major accident rate is higher because of the special nature of theirgeographical environment and the accident caused serious casualties and damage to property.Therefore, it’s important to improve the performance of the mountain rural road traffic safety byimproving the mountainous rural road roadside security facilities for the protection of people’slives and property safety.This paper summarizes the road traffic characteristics and the vehicles’ features such ascomposition of models and speed by the research of Chengde mountain rural road traffic safetysituation combining with domestic and international research, the paper analyses various of roadtraffic security facilities’ characteristics and scope of application, choosing the suitable formountainous rural road roadside security facilities. Using the finite element analysis softwareANSYS to analyze the safety performance of the the roadside security facilities, so themountainous rural road roadside security facilities’ safety performance can be detected in acost-effective. The paper recommended the roadside security facilities suitable for mountainrural road traffic safety needs in the form and structure size by the principle of "security,economic and practical”. Finally, the paper takes the Chengde rural roads for empirical research,proposed new significant measures to improve the traffic safety facilities.
