High voltage transmission lines are important part of the power system. Real-timemonitoring transmission lines can improve the economic benefit of power transmission.At present, our country power transmission line is in short supply. The technology ofdynamic capacity expansion became the key to improve the power transmission capacity.The sag of power transmission wire is related to power transmission capacity, it alsoreflects the operation safety of the transmission wires. Hence, real-time monitoring sag oftransmission wire is very significant.The sag of power transmission lines is associated with its dip angle, so this paperrealized the real-time monitoring of sag by measuring the dip angle of power transmissionlines. Mathematical relationship between sag and dip angle was deduced. Catenary modelof power transmission lines were set up when it was swinging or not. This paper analyzedthe influence of sag when there was error in the measurement results of dip angle andcorresponding modified method was given.Measurement circuit was designed andmodified method of temperature dependency of dip angle sensor was analyzed. Datareceiving platform used GPRS network was designed. AT last, the experiment of sagon-line monitoring system was given in order to simulate the running state of powertransmission lines. The experiments showed that measuring sag by measuring dip angle ofpower transmission lines was relatively accurate, catenary model could bring upperaccuracy, and the communication of wireless sending and receiving system was reliable.
